“Drive Away” takes a deep dive into the mind of someone in the midst of a failing relationship, presumably one-sided. Chloe pin-points the exact moment she realized it was time to cut-ties with a person that was no longer making her a better version of herself, but gosh, is that a hard thing to do when you think you love somebody. It’s a whole lot easier to sit around and hope that the other party walks away first… and that’s exactly what she did. For a while at least. Listeners are left with insight about the teeter-totter of emotions running through Chloe’s mind when the chorus hits, flashbacks to better times during the bridge, and with standout lyric “I’d smile as I watched you drive away,” they can begin to understand how much easier that scene might be to endure than breaking off the relationship for herself.

Lyrics

I let you take the one thing
I promised myself to keep
I let you say you loved me
When your love ain't that deep
I don't have the strength to tell you
This ain't workin' no more
I don't have the faith in us
To stay for one week more

I'm alright
Just don't know if I'll make it through the night
I'm okay
I haven't even cried since yesterday
The sun is up, and you're here
So why should I complain?
But if you weren't
I'd smile as I watched you drive away

"How have you been?"
"How are things with that boy from home?"
I can't win, I say we're fine
But I feel alone
Boy it's too hard to say it out loud
When we're both to blame
I've lost our love
But you fanned the fire then watched it rain

I'm alright
Just don't know if I'll make it through the night
I'm okay
I haven't even cried since yesterday
The sun is up, and you're here
So why should I complain?
But if you weren't
I'd smile as I watched you drive away

Blue eyes
Strong hands
Long nights
Dead ends

I'm alright
Just don't know if I'll make it through the night
I'm okay
I haven't even cried since yesterday
The sun is up, and you're here
So why should I complain?
But if you weren't
I'd smile as I watched you drive away
